Positive Perspectives 2: Know Your Dog, Train Your Dog
Dogwise Publishing is pleased to reunite again with Pat Miller for the publication of her second volume of Positive Perspectives, a collection of her recent articles. This collection is more advanced than volume one, with particular emphasis on understanding the latest in canine behavioral research so that you can become a more effective trainer and/or owner. One of my biggest pet peeves is 2nd edition books that change a few minor things about the first edition and rename it "2"; this is not the case with PP 2. There are many new things that build on Positives Perspectives. I highly recommend this for anyone who is interested in using positive techniques to train their dog!
Control Unleashed - Creating a Focused and Confident Dog
Learn how to turn stress to confidence and distraction to focus using methods that are 110% positive. Leslie McDevitt's versatile Control Unleashed program is designed to help "dogs with issues" learn how to relax, focus, and work off-leash reliably in either stimulating or stressful situations. Whether you're training a challenging dog on your own, an instructor trying to figure out how to help dogs in your classes, or an instructor who wants to design a special program just for stressed out dogs, this book is for you. Who needs Control Unleashed? Dogs that are uncomfortable or unable to work off lead around other dogs Dog that are easily distracted and have difficulty concentrating Dogs that are reactive or easily aroused Dogs that are anxious or stressed and shut down Dog that are unable to control their impulses when excited This training program can change your dog's life!
Purely Positive Training: Companion to Competition
The information regarding how and why dogs react to emotional energy, body posture, breathing and even eye contact is fascinating, and the training techniques in part 3 are extremely useful. The underlying and best quality about this book is how the fun times and the relationship a person has with their dog is the most important part of dog ownership. This is one incredible book. It is exactly as the title states, Companion to Competition. The book starts out with basic rules or concepts that apply universally to teaching your dog good house manner or competitive obedience. The techniques are foolproof and can be easily incorporated into every day interactions with your dog.
Pet Behavior Protocols
Pet Behavior Protocols: What to Say, What to Do, When to Refer is perfect for anyone in a position to aid pet owners in finding sensible solutions to pet behavior problems, including veterinary professionals, shelter staff, breeders, trainers, animal control agents, and anyone else involved with animal welfare. The book takes technical animal behavior theory and turns it into effective, practical solutions for real-life situations you'll face with dog and cat owners in your community. It supplies practical, effective protocols for behavioral problems so you can follow a methodical step-by-step guide when pet owners turn to you for solutions. The book includes sample questions so you'll know exactly what to ask pet owners and presents information on problem prevention using several highly effective principles. When you know what to say, what to do, and when to refer, you can help avoid a breakdown of the human-animal bond and make a big difference for both pets and the people who love them.
Beyond Obedience: Training with Awareness for You & Your Dog
April Frost philosophizes that the key to successful dog training lies in establishing a spiritual and psychological connection between dog and human. Like the Monks of New Skete, the widely respected authors of The Art of Raising a Puppy and How to Be Your Dog's Best Friend, Frost endorses "love and respect" for a dog and treating each one as a unique individual. Beyond Obedience is not structured with day-to-day accomplishment deadlines or strict training goals in mind. Instead, the emphasis is on the individual dog, who will grow and develop at his own rate. Every chapter aims to enhance the human-canine bond. Topics include the mind and energy connection, how dogs can teach us as human beings, and new ways to improve communication. The book also offers alternatives to traditional veterinary care as more and more pet owners look for less chemically harsh ways to treat animals. Herbal remedies for carsickness, soiling problems, and stress are a taste of these natural substitutes. Beyond Obedience is much more than a dog-training guide--it is a new way of viewing our relationships with our dogs.
