The Catalan Sheepdog is a breed of Catalan pyrenean dog used as sheepdog. The breed is very rare in the United States, mostly being breed in Europe, especially Spain, Finland, Germany, and Sweden.

Catalan Sheepdogs range in size from 17 to 19 in (45 to 55 cm) in height and 45 to 60 lb (20 to 27 kg) in weight for males, with females being smaller. Their coat is long and either flat or slightly wavy, and can be from fawn to dark sable and light to dark grey. There is also a shorthaired version of this breed, but is nearly extinct. Catalan Sheepdogs are prone to hip dysplasia. Their average life span is 12 to 14 years.

This breed is used for herding and as a companion. Because of its intelligence, the Gos D'Atura, like most sheepdogs, are easy to train. This cheerful dog are also known to do all kinds of dog-sports, such as agility and doggy-dance. In spite of its unpretending appearance, this courageous dog is also used as a watch-dog. An "all-around-dog" and great companion.

A very sedate dog, active and intelligent, with a noble expression, with a hardy and pleasant character, really devoted to the shepherd and the flocks entrusted to him, wary of strangers, which at times make his seem unsociable. He is very vigilant, very resistant to heat, cold and all atmospherics. A very frugal alimentation is sufficient for him to work in extreme conditions.

They are apparently so clever that they guard sheep without needing the instructions of the farmer. Enough (outdoor) action and distraction makes this dog a quiet and well-balanced home companion. The breed is appropriate for people with clear ideas that wants a quiet dog in home and with wishes to go out and run. It is not appropriate for inconsistent and indicisive people. It is very important to create a consistent and early socialisation with it, especially if there's kids in the house. It'll be a good defendor of the whole family and it will be very stuck to it. Correct care will make it an incredible friend.
