The Cesky Fousek is closely related to both the Drahthaar and the Stichelhaar, whom he resembles.

The breed was very popular in the area of Bohemia between the mid-1800s and World War I but was almost lost during that war. He was revived in the 1930s, by using some German Sh-orthaired Pointer blood.

The Cesky Fousek is thought to be an ancient breed, although written standards were first established in the nineteenth century. The breed nearly went extinct in the 1920s, and was saved by breeding with German Pointers.
