The Français noir et blanc is a big powerful dog with a short, strong and thick fur. The coat is predominantly black with white. An adult male is about 65 to 72 centimeters high, an adult female measuring 62 to 68 centimetres.
Appearance: Head: Long and narrow, with skull slightly arched. Eyes: Medium size and light in color. Ears: Long, rounded and hanging close to head. Muzzle: Long and narrow. Nose: Black and self-colored according to coat. Bite: Scissor or level. Neck: Medium length and very strong.
Chest: Deep, reaching below the level of elbows, with a long ribcage and well sprung ribs. Body: Back slightly arched, with croup slightly falling. Legs: Forelegs are long, straight and clean. Hind legs are full and well muscled, with hocks well bent. Feet: Strong and long, with close toes. Tail: Thin and long. Movement: Good reach, with well balanced movement. Temperament: Energetic, free-spirited, with good movement.
