Tamaskan Dog
Sponsored Links:The Tamaskan Dog is a rare breed of dog, originating from Finland. The Tamaskan is a mix of different types of Arctic breeds, including Alaskan Malamute and Siberian Husky. Original Arctic mixes were imported from the USA and selective breeding started in the early 80′s. The aim was to selectively breed those dogs with a wolf-like look. The word ‘Tamaskan’ means ‘mighty wolf’ or ‘strong wolf’. The Tamaskan is believed to be the breed most closely resembling the wolf.
Appearance: The Tamaskan dog is a large, athletic dog. The temperament of the dog should be very friendly and affectionate without any hint of aggression or nervousness. Should give a wolf-like impression with coarse and thick fur, small ears and a straight brushy tail.
Behaviour and temperament: The Tamaskan dog is friendly and affectionate. He should not appear aggressive or overly reserved towards people or other dogs. His high intelligence and eagerness to please make him versatile in his uses as a working dog and loyal companion. Tamaskan dogs are not a dog that likes to be left alone and problems such as escaping and destructive behaviour may well be encountered. As a “pack” dog they are better suited to the company of another dog, or dogs, unless you can give them your full attention. Tamaskan dogs are quite capable and willing to work as a sled dog.
Health: The Tamaskan Register has compiled the hip scores for the breed average, the results are 9.2. The Tamaskan Dog Register now insist that all stud dogs and brood bitches have their hips scored and the results sent to the register; any dogs with a hip score over 15 should NOT be bred from and their progeny will not be registered.
Tamaskan Dog Register: The Tamaskan Dog Register is the official registering body for all Tamaskan Dogs throughout the world. They house the official breeders list, stud book and the health records of all registered Tamaskan dogs.
