The Valley Bulldog is rare breed of dog found most commonly in the Annapolis Valley of Nova Scotia, Canada. It is a common conception that Valley Bulldog originated in the Annapolis Valley, giving the breed the name “Valley Bulldog”.

The Valley Bulldog is a loyal and intelligent companion. They desire to be close to their owner at all times and will enjoy intense playtime or rest and relaxation with their owners. Valleys are great companions for the entire family and take very well to small children. Occasionally, you may find a Valley Bulldog that has inherited the Boxer’s tendency to be rough at play and may also be quite a jumper. This is a rare occurrence, but should be noted for those owners with small children.

The incorporation of the Boxer with the Bulldog corrected most of the health problems associated with the Bulldog. However, they may suffer from minor breathing problems if their snubbed snout restricts air. In these cases, they should be monitored in hot weather to prevent heat stroke. Valley Bulldogs may be susceptible to minor skin irritations during adolescent stages of growth. The skin irritations are easily corrected and most often disappear once the dog has reached full maturity. They breed and whelp their own litters without any intervention.

The Valley Bulldog is derived from the Boxer and the English Bulldog. As a result of this combination, this dog possesses a large head, wide chest, facial wrinkles and loose skin, while keeping a stocky, very muscular, athletic body.

The wide upper body displays good muscle tone, narrowing slightly towards the back end, although the buttocks and hips still show strong muscle definition. The head is blocky with muzzle length ranging from 1 – 2 inches. Lower jaw should be undershot.

Facial wrinkles should be obvious from forehead to the nose, and loose skin should be found under the chin; these qualities should remain throughout adulthood. Excess skin wrinkles on the body as puppies normally extend to a tight, healthy body covering. While a proud stance is given with the wide chest, legs should not be bowed, but firm and straight.

This is a healthy, athletic, low-maintenance bulldog with the look that few can resist. The breed is rapidly gaining popularity and recognition.The Valley Bulldog has an excellent temperament and when socialized properly can get along with all other breeds of dogs and humans (adults and children). They can be very calm and gentle and all of a sudden act really silly and playful. They love to clown around and love to be around their human owners.

Valley Bulldogs are intelligent and can be taught many things quite easily, however they can be stubborn when they want to be. They make excellent watch dogs in the house and will bark at sounds that they don’t recognize. They love to go for drives in the car! This is a very strong dog. Like all mastiff type breeds, the Valley Bulldog should have a dominate owner.

Valley Bulldogs adapt well in any environment. They are easily house trained and make excellent house pets. With proper shelter they are fine in hot/humid weather. With adequately-heated shelter they do well in cold climates. These dogs prefer running & playing outside, regardless of temperature.
